Southern Florida

It’s summer! That’s at least how it seems to me riding along the Atlantic coast here in Miami-Dade County.
I’ve come through Fort Lauderdale today and entered the greater Miami area.
The scarriest thing was riding on US1 along Fort Lauderdale airport where A1A isn’t available on the coast. It freaked me out a little bit riding on a major highway designed like an interstate road, but fortunately it lasted only a few miles.
Back on A1A I didn’t even mind riding on three or four lane roads any more although there was much more traffic than on the airport stretch of US1.
Anyway, I found another library and made a reservation for the internet which I had to wait for for an hour. How convenient that there are grocery stores and restaurants all over the place right here in North Shores so I could get myself a yummy seafood salad and a grapefruit – oh yeah, and of course a little piece of raspberry chocolate fudge – and had lunch on the beach while I was waiting.
I am so far south now that the palm trees on the beach look so much more natural here than back home by Orlando. It’s really rediculously tropical around here. I just love riding on A1A.
That was on of the best idea ever for a Christmas trip and tonight I’ll finally meet up with Jon in Florida city before turning into the Keys tomorrow which should be even more fun.

I’ve got 40 more miles to go today though, so I better get back on the road soon!
